Welcome to the FIFTH AND SIXTH GRADE MATH and 5TH GRADE SCIENCE CLASSES. My name is Mrs. Joan Baley. I am very happy to be teaching GRADE 5 SCIENCE, GRADES 5-6 MATH and GRADE 5 RELIGION. Math and Science are two very important subjects. We are moving toward The Next Generation Science Standards. I have designed my Science Program to align with the NGSS with STEM(SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY. ENGINEERING, AND MATH) Activities being weaved throughout my program. As a product of Catholic Education, I am a firm believer in Catholic Education and know that as part of my teaching mission, I must share this faith with my students. I am a graduate of St. Xavier University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education with a minor in the Sciences and graduate classes at Loyola. I am in charge of the the Anti-Bullying/ Bucket Filler Program. I am on the Science and Math Committees, and School Liturgy Team. I am a STEM SCIENCE ENRICHMENT Teacher and High School Entrance Exam Teacher. I am also on the ICEP Team and Advanced Ed Team here at St. Christina. Each year I attend workshops, on-line classes, and seminars in order to bring back the most innovative ideas in Science, Math, and Technology to my classroom. This summer I conducted a STEM SUMMER CAMP at St. Christina School which really brought out the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math in the students. I offer a STEM ENRICHMENT CLASS on Wednesdays. I also have taken on line classes on the Next Generation Science Standards. I want to keep up with the latest trends in the World of Science. I have also taken an on line class Common Core Math Class. I have been teaching in the Archdiocese of Chicago throughout my entire teaching career. I have taught at St. Thomas More School and now at St Christina. During this time, I have had the experience of teaching Grades K-8. In 2009, I was very honored to have received the Archdiocesan Heart of the School Award. I also have had Golden Apple Nominations, Who's Who Among America's Teachers Awards, and awards from Queen of Peace, Mt. Assisi, and Mt. Carmel High Schools. I find teaching a very rewarding profession. I am a catechist, helping my students grow as a disciple of Christ. In addition to teaching in the classroom, I am a tutor. I teach the various educational classes. My hobbies are golfing, interior decorating, gardening, and of course, vacationing.. I enjoy being with my husband and family.
