i YEAR AT A GLANCE SCIENCE In my Science classes, I help the students recognize and appreciate the application of life, physical, and earth science in everyday living. I present a hands-on program in which the students are involved in investigations to solve problems through the use of the scientific method. I want to help the students to think critically and perceive the relationship among ideas as well as to build on prior knowledge. It is with great pleasure that I teach Science, working with the future Scientists of our World.GRADE 5 OUR FIFTH GRADE SCIENCE CLASSES WILL BEGIN WITH A STUDY OF THE LAB SAFETY RULES AND LAB EQUIPMENT. THE STUDENTS WILL LEARN TO USE THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD AS THEY CONDUCT THEIR LAB INVESTIGATIONS. THIS WILL BE A VERY HANDS-ON SCIENCE CLASS. OUR FIRST SCIENCE PROJECT WILL BE A STUDY OF AN ASSIGNED SCIENTIST. PLEASE SAVE YOUR TWO LITER POP BOTTLE FOR THIS PROJECT. THE FIFTH GRADERS WILL BEGIN THEIR NEW SCIENCE SERIES-THE FOSS SCIENCE KIT ALIGNED WITH THE NEXT GENERATION SCIENCE STANDARDS. OUR FIRST TRIMESTER WILL BE AN EARTH SCIENCE UNIT, STUDYING THE EARTH AND SUN. OUR SECOND TRIMESTER WILL BE A STUDY OF PHYSICAL SCIENCE-MIXTURES AND SOLUTIONS. OUR THIRD TRIMESTER WILL BE A STUDY OF LIFE SCIENCE- LIVING SYSTEMS. MATH-GRADE 5 Fifth Grade Students concentrate on place values through millions. They work with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to solve multi-step word problems. They learn about factors of a whole number and exponents to express powers of 10. They collect and analyze information from a variety of graphs and number patterns and understand the concept of mean, median, and mode with data sets. Fifth grade students continue expanding their understanding of fractions such as reading, writing, adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions. The students also work on decimals such as reading, writing, adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, and comparing fractions. The students write and interpret mathematical expressions using symbols. They practice measuring weights, liquids, volume, length, and area. They continue to increase their understanding of geometry such as classifying polygons and measuring their area. MATH GRADE 6 Sixth Grade Students will concentrate on: 1. Measurement and Statistics 2. Decimal Addition and Subtraction 3. Decimal Multiplication and Division 4. Number Patterns and Fractions 5, Addition and Subtraction of Fractions 6. Multiplication and Division of Fractions 7. Ratios, Proportionsm and Percents 8. Geometry and Measurements 9. Integers 10. Equations and Functions 11. Probabilty and Statistics RELIGION-GRADE 5 The students will continue to grow as a disciple of Jesus Christ. Let's have a faith-filled year. TEXT-SADLIER- WE BELIEVE1. Read your book. 2.
